














Mahatma Gandhi Government Arts College (MGGAC Mahe / Mahe College) is the premier higher educational institution of the Mahe region and the present campus is located in a serene, picturesque and sprawling area at Mount Vera, Chalakkara, Mahe. It blossomed as the outcome of the efforts of the Puducherry administration with the avowed objective of imparting quality education in Arts, Humanities and Science to all the constituent units of the Union Territory. The College was inaugurated on 11th December 1970 by Shri. B.D. Jatti, His Excellency the Lt. Governor of Puducherry. Prof. M.M. Ghani, Vice Chancellor, University of Calicut, unveiled the plaque. The function was presided over by Shri. M.O.H. Farook, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Puducherry. The institution started off as a junior college affiliated to the University of Calicut. It attained the status of a full-fledged degree college in the year 1973 and a Post Graduate Institution in the year 1992. The college is presently affiliated to the Pondicherry University and is accredited 'B' Grade by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). The college has good infrastructural facilities, well equipped laboratories, qualified and experienced Faculties.
















































The Women’s Cell of Mahatma Gandhi Government Arts College, Mahe, in association with the Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee, ICC and IQAC, observed International Women’s Day with a vibrant and colourful awareness programme titled “Women: Empowered by Law, Empowered for Life.” The programme was organised in the college seminar hall on 10 March 2026 at 10.30 AM and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members. The event commenced with an invocation followed by the welcome address delivered by Dr. K. Sasikala, Co-ordinator of the Women’s Cell and Assistant Professor of Botany. The programme was presided over by Dr. K. K. Sivadasan, Principal of the college, who highlighted the significance of gender justice and the importance of institutional support systems for women. Mrs. Mini C. K., Convener of the ICC and Assistant Professor of English, introduced the chief guest. The highlight of the event was the address by Adv. Babitha Balraj, Advocate and Former Member of the Child Rights Commission, Kerala State, who delivered an insightful talk on legal awareness and women’s empowerment. Felicitation speeches were delivered by Dr. K. M. Gopinathan, IQAC Co-ordinator and Head of the Department of Zoology, and Dr. K. Manjula, Head and Assistant Professor of Hindi. The programme also included prize distribution, encouraging student participation in Women’s Day activities. The event concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Hemalatha S., Member of the Women’s Cell and Assistant Professor of English. The programme served as a meaningful platform to reaffirm the institution’s commitment to gender equality, legal awareness, and the empowerment of women in society.
Central Ground Water Board
Skill Enhancement and Entrepreneurship Programme was successfully conducted at Mahatma Gandhi Government Arts College (MGGAC), Mahe, by P.G Dept. of Botany in association with SBI, Mahe from 06 February 2026 to 12 February 2026, with the objective of equipping students with practical skills, entrepreneurial awareness, and exposure to traditional and innovative livelihood opportunities. The programme aimed to bridge academic knowledge with real-world applications, especially in the areas of sustainable agriculture, medicinal plants, and self-employment.
Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme as a part of Viksit Bharat @ 2047 - Conducted by NSS Units, MGGAC, Mahe
The Botany Association, P.G. Department of Botany organized the World Wetland Day Celebration on 2nd February 2026 at 3.30 pm in the Department. Association Secretary Ms. Nandana K. of Second M.Sc. welcomed the gathering. The Principal Dr. K.K. Sivadasan and Head of the Department Dr. G. Pradeep Kumar made introductory remarks. During their speech they have explained the importance of Wetlands and their ecosystem services. They appreciated the students for organizing such a programme. It was followed by presentations from Ms. Ansaniya, Ms. Nandhana Dileep (Second M.Sc.), Fathimathul Sahala and Sarayu (First M.Sc.). The presentations were mainly focused on this year’s theme “Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge Celebrating the Cultural Heritage”. The presenters explained the significance of Wetlands, types, their ecosystem services, traditional uses, threats faced and conservation measures with the help of beautiful power point slides. A total of 90 students (UG and PG and Faculty members attended the programme. Ms. Sayandana of Second M.Sc. proposed the vote of thanks.
