The Women’s Cell of Mahatma Gandhi Government Arts College, Mahe, in association with the Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee, ICC and IQAC, observed International Women’s Day with a vibrant and colourful awareness programme titled “Women: Empowered by Law, Empowered for Life.” The programme was organised in the college seminar hall on 10 March 2026 at 10.30 AM and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members. The event commenced with an invocation followed by the welcome address delivered by Dr. K. Sasikala, Co-ordinator of the Women’s Cell and Assistant Professor of Botany. The programme was presided over by Dr. K. K. Sivadasan, Principal of the college, who highlighted the significance of gender justice and the importance of institutional support systems for women. Mrs. Mini C. K., Convener of the ICC and Assistant Professor of English, introduced the chief guest. The highlight of the event was the address by Adv. Babitha Balraj, Advocate and Former Member of the Child Rights Commission, Kerala State, who delivered an insightful talk on legal awareness and women’s empowerment. Felicitation speeches were delivered by Dr. K. M. Gopinathan, IQAC Co-ordinator and Head of the Department of Zoology, and Dr. K. Manjula, Head and Assistant Professor of Hindi. The programme also included prize distribution, encouraging student participation in Women’s Day activities. The event concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Hemalatha S., Member of the Women’s Cell and Assistant Professor of English. The programme served as a meaningful platform to reaffirm the institution’s commitment to gender equality, legal awareness, and the empowerment of women in society.

The Botany Association organized an inter Departmental Quiz competition on 8th October 2025 on the eve of “Wildlife Week 2025”. Eleven teams (each team comprising two members) from different Departments participated in the programme. There were four rounds and at the end of fourth round the Team Botany (Aiswarya K.M. and Sandra K.) scored 47.5 points and secured the First prize. The Team Zoology (Gopika K.V. and Krishna Priya A.V.) scored 30 points and secured the Second prize and the Team Chemistry (Ananya and Deva) scored 22.5 points and secured the Third Prize. Dr. Girish Kumar E., Assistant Professor of Botany officiated as the Quiz master. Members of the Association (Students and Faculty members) helped in conducting the event in a befitting manner.

ISRO has launched a new introductory-level online training programme called ‘Space Science and Technology Awareness Training (START)’ aimed at post-graduate and final-year undergraduate students of physical sciences and technology. The programme will cover various domains of space science, including Astronomy & Astrophysics, Heliophysics & Sun-Earth interaction, Instrumentation, and Aeronomy. It will be delivered by the scientists from Indian academia and ISRO centres. The START programme is part of ISRO's efforts to enable Indian students to become professionals in space science and technology, as the organization's space science exploration program continues to expand into new domains. The programme is intended to provide students with an introductory-level training in space science and technology, giving them an overview of different facets of the field, research opportunities, and career options. The training will also emphasize the cross-disciplinary nature of space science, giving students insights into how their individual aptitudes can be applied to the field. The programme is expected to help build a human capacity that will lead space science and research in the future. The lectures will also cover topics on the Indian space science exploration programme and research opportunities in space science and technologies. The student community will be benefited from this training programme, as they will receive an overview of the different facets of space science and technology, exposure to the research ongoing in different Indian institutes, insight into how their individual aptitude would suit some of the facets of space science and technology, appreciate the cross-disciplinary nature of the subject, and accordingly choose their career path.
